Behind The Brand
Mark Brengle
Owner/Operator
Hi I am Mark and I am co/owner of North State Fence Builders. I have served the fence industry since 2001. I have worked within the manufacturing side of fencing, running a very large plant that ships Nationwide . I have been installing fencing for over two decades and I thoroughly enjoy this part of the process. A woodworker in my downtime, it’s this stage where I am completely in my element. While I know I have many job descriptions I enjoy building myself, most. I enjoy working with my wife and kids and creating relationships with our vendors and clients. I like to work together with customers that have problematic spaces to come up with creative solutions. Our NAFCA projects are important to me. Every year we volunteer to build fencing around Arlington National Cemetery. I have been a part of this project for many years but the project now holds significant meaning to me as my dad has been laid to rest there.
Hello I am Nancie. I am one of the owners at North State Fence Builders. I have a degree in Interior Design but I have found that I love working on Exterior design more. I am on the board of directors of the North American Fence Contractors Association (NAFCA) and I have written articles for FENCELINE magazine. I enjoy being a part of NAFCA as they are an organization that gives back. Our company has been a part of some special projects. We had two big projects in 2024. We volunteered in Western North Carolina rebuilding after Hurricane Helene and we are part of the Arlington National Cemetery Service Project. (Stay tuned to see what service projects we are up to in 2025) What I enjoy most about what I do is the people. We have built fences for some pretty amazing clients and I have been blessed enough to call some my friends. I love helping our clients through our process and it is so rewarding to see how they are satisfied with their finished project. In my down time I am a mom to 3 boys and wife to my business partner. 2 of my sons work for North State and I take great pride in walking in our office and seeing them everyday. It warms my heart to see them take the same pride in running our family business. I run the North Carolina Lyme disease education and advocacy group and I am on the board of the Mayday project. I am a huge science nerd and I am currently in the process of writing a book.

A little bit of everything
Hi, My name is Colby. I am primarily the sales representative at North State Fence. I started in the fencing industry when I was eight years old and my dad would yell at me to wake up and help him on the weekends to install fencing. While at the time I was like, “why am I out here carrying concrete and 2x4s.” I learned my dad was teaching me a valuable lesson and showing me every aspect of a fence company. Every day after High School I would work at North State Fence and I was able to start our own Stain Division. Also in High School I became certified in Adobe Premier Pro for editing, so now I am able to run all of our social media.
My day to day job description changes everyday and that is what I love about our family company. I never do the same thing every day. Some days I may be operating the forklift, while others I may be meeting with customers and editing videos for our social media. That’s why my job title is a little bit of everything.
The Arlington Project
Arlington National Cemetery.. it’s the home of the brave. For years North State has been a part of this very special project. Now as a board of director member of NAFCA we get to be a part of planning this event.
Volunteers from fence companies around the country assemble to spend the day removing and rebuilding fencing around the cemetery
Each year is a different task in a different location but still on sacred ground.
North State Fence Builders is so proud to serve many in the community who have served. This project is our way of saying thank you for your sacrifice.
The Western NC Project
(Hurricane Helene Relief)

With Arlington plans in full spring for a start date at the end of October 2024 nobody expected a hurricane to hit Western North Carolina. As NC residents there was an ache to find a way to help in some small way.
With the blessing of ANC and a new start date in November we shifted gears to start preparations to head to Western NC to volunteer where we were needed.
We made contact with the NC Cattleman’s Association and found that there was a need to rebuild the pastures of 3 farmers.
With only a small window of time NAFCA took to the airwaves to broadcast our need. We raised the funds and set out on our journey.
We were so blessed to hear that so many of our fellow fence installers wanted to join this cause.
We met up with almost 15 volunteers and in 3 days were able to do so much work. It was a honor to work with these farmers on their properties and inspirational to see their strong spirits.
North State and NAFCA are once again
getting ready for our next service project. There is so much work left to do so we will be returning to Swannanoa in March of 2025 to volunteer again.
Together we make a difference.
